Selection of events in Alabama

In Alabama, National School Choice Week will feature 1,107 events and activities. Every event is unique, and all schools, homeschool groups, organizations, and families celebrate in different ways. To give you an idea of the types of celebrations taking place this January in Alabama, here are just a few that participants have shared with the NSCW team:

 

Phenix Christian School in Phenix City, AL will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show appreciation to families and teachers for making our school great. We display some posters, have kids draw pictures of what they like about school, and hand out scarves.”

Holy Spirit School in Tuscaloosa, AL will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to help local families learn more about our school. The scarves are given to our 6th grade students and their little buddies in Kindergarten and we will also hand some out at our Open House this weekend. Our students are using the provided NSCW handwriting paper to display why our school is important to them. These will be on display for our Open House this weekend as well as posters.”

University Charter School in Livingston, AL will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show appreciation to families and teachers for making our school great. The event will feature a National School Choice Week Kickoff, Yellow Day, Door Decoration Contest, appreciation Snacks for Parents/Guardians, passing out scarves to students and teachers.”

Riverhill School in Florence, AL will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to share what makes our school great with our community. Riverhill is hosting John Rosemond (noted author and child behavior specialist) on Tuesday evening, January 28. The event is FREE to the public and is sponsored by a Riverhill donor.”

Pickens Academy in Carrollton, AL will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show our school spirit. The event will feature our student government association showcasing school spirit throughout the week using the materials you sent them. They will showcase photos from the week on our Facebook page.”

Little House For Little People in Bessemer, AL will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to shine a positive spotlight on our school. We are planning on combining classes ages and providing and preparing the children to dance and then upload the dance, take pictures introduce school choice week to parents and provide them with the necessary information.”

Carol Wilkins in Vestavia Hills, AL will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to raise awareness of education options for children. We plan to celebrate by sharing on social media and in our city by wearing the scarves. We’ve had a lot of questions about the bright yellow scarves!”

Home Sweet Home in Enterprise, AL will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to raise awareness about homeschooling. The event will feature scarves and lots of pictures”

Parkview Christian School in Eufaula, AL will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to raise awareness about different education options. The event will feature a different theme for each of the five days.  Examples:  “Hats off to PCS” (students will wear hats that day with the yellow scarves and together throw their hats into the air….for a photograph to be sent to the local newspaper), another day is when students wear their “red” school shirts along with the yellow scarves while holding signs promoting the week.  The two colors (School Choice Week colors) should go well together for another newspaper pictures.  Other themes for the the week include the wearing of sunglasses with the theme: “We’re so bright we gotta wear shades!”, “PCS will Rock Your Socks” (Silly Sock Day”) and another theme that I can’t remember at this time.”

The Continuous Learning Center in Mobile, AL will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate our students, parents, teachers and staff. We are planning to hand out the scarves to students and teachers on Monday, January 27th to celebrate our teachers and students.”

Sumiton Christian School in Sumiton, AL will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to Share what makes our school great with our community. We will share the scarfs and signs with students. We will also endorse National School Choice Week on our Social Media accounts.”

WOODLAND PREPARATORY SCHOOL in MILLRY, AL will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to Help local families learn more about our school. The event will feature We are celebrating the announcement of our school leader.”

Angela Kamphey in Mobile, AL will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show local support for school choice. For our event we will be going to the community center and helping with home work.”

Jasmun Simpson in Alexander, AL will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to raise awareness of education options for children. For our event we gave out scarfs to my homeschooled children. They loved it and also loved to show how fun home school is.”

Janet Gibson in Ranburne, AL will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to inform parents about the options available for their children’s education. For our event we will hand out scarves at a local city affair.  We will use a wheel to determine winners.”

Princeton Alternative Elementary School in Birmingham, AL will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate our students, parents, teachers and staff. We have been a choice school for decades and will finally celebrate with a week full of activities to show how lucky we are to be apart of the Princeton family! Monday-Kickoff Assembly; Tuesday- Wear Yellow and Yellow accessories; Wednesday- School Spirit “Create Your Own School Shirt”; Thursday-Thank You cards will go home to parents; Friday- Announce the winners of the poster contest”

Allan Cott School and Lakeview School in Birmingham, AL will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an activity to celebrate our students, parents, teachers and staff. The activity will feature our students decorating the NSCW banner and wearing the scarves.”

Pal-a-roos Daycare in Newville, AL will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate our students, parents, teachers and staff. The event will show how great our kids and staff are.”

Lighthouse Christian Academy in Montgomery, AL will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to shine a positive spotlight on our school. The event will feature a sign at front of the school and we will postings on our web page.”

Homestyle Learning Pre-K in Talladega, AL will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show our school spirit. The event will celebrate parents choosing our schools to serve them”

Angela Perrigin from Russellville, AL will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to raise awareness of education options for children. For the event we will host a small party at the house with some of my kids friends”

Jennifer Howard from Hollywood, AL will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate students, parents, teachers, and school leaders. For the event we will have outdoor activities”

Lisa Tidwell from Albertville, AL will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to inform parents about the options available for their children’s education. For the event we plan on wearing the the yellow scarves and making posts on Facebook in effort to strike up conversations and spread awareness.”

Derell Jordan from Honoraville, AL will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to raise awareness about the importance of effective education for children. For the event we will have food and fun for the kids at an outdoor lunch”

Tera Hargress from Huntsville, AL will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to raise awareness about the importance of effective education for children. For the event we will inform parents, neighbors by use of email, posters, and letters of this unique needed service to help our children achieve the goals set forth for them.”

Sonya Elston from Anniston, AL will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to raise awareness about the importance of effective education for children.”

Misty Lackey from Vance, AL will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate students, parents, teachers, and school leaders. For the event we will wear our scarves and put the signs in our yard. We think the yellow color will help draw attention to open the door to discussing the importance of school.”

Josephinetta Jordan from Birmingham, AL will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to inform parents about the options available for their children’s education. We will have a celebration to give mothers advice on how to have a sit down with their kids about the importance of having a education and the benefits from it.”

Kristina Stone from Oxford, AL will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate virtual education.”

Rachida Rdait from Pennsylvania, AL will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate students, parents, teachers, and school leaders. For the event we will discuss ‘School is my future’.”
