In California, National School Choice Week will feature 2,868 events and activities. Every event is unique, and all schools, homeschool groups, organizations, and families celebrate in different ways. To give you an idea of the types of celebrations taking place this January in California, here are just a few that participants have shared with the NSCW team:

 

John Adams Elementary School in Madera, CA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to shine a positive spotlight on our school. The event will feature a school wide Rally and a visit from our local Police Association and Fire.”

Little Treehouse Academy in Northridge, CA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show our school spirit. We will open an outdoor classroom with our students, teachers and parents to celebrate the diversity, collaboration, and learning that is taking place at our school.”

Discovery of Learning in , CA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to provide information to parents interested in homeschooling their children. We are going to have two events that profile the local vendors available to children enrolled in charters here in our area.”

CIRCLE of Homeschoolers in , CA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to demonstrate the positive impact of homeschooling. We will be celebrating our choice to learn outdoors together in a respectful environment with a fun park day, fitness class, and arts/crafts.”

Tree of Life Charter School in Ukiah, CA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to shine a positive spotlight on our school. The event will feature a Family Game Night on Tuesday evening with a potluck dinner and games. Throughout the week, we are promoting the school’s Peace and Kindness theme with special activities.”

Vista Heritage Global Academy in Santa Ana, CA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to raise awareness about different education options. The event will feature a public screening of the film Miss Virginia.”

CHIME Institute’s Schwarzenegger Community School in Woodland Hills, CA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to share what makes our school great with our community. The event will feature My Funny Valentine – Love and Laughs for CHIME! An evening event for adults to spread awareness about our school and raise much needed funding.  School Spirit Days at CHIME for the students and teachers.”

Global Education Academy 2 in Los Angeles, CA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show our school spirit. The way our class and school plans to celebrate National School Choice a Week is to come together and talk about choices we have. We have a choice of the school we have the privilege to attend and receive education. We also plan to learn the National School Choice Week dance together and perform in front of the school.”

International Bible Baptist Academy in San Leandro, CA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate our students, parents, teachers and staff. The event will feature a week-long celebration with different themes and coordinators. Monday is Sport’s Day. Tuesday is Movie Day. Wednesday is Poster-Making Contest Day. Thursday is Craft Day. Friday is Educational Field Trip Day.”

Kathy Helton in Stockton, CA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to raise awareness of education options for children. For our event we will be passing out scarfs and stickers to the kids I take care of.”

Barbara Dunham in Corcoran, CA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to raise awareness about the importance of effective education for children. For our event I handed out the scarves to students and posted the poster and signs with important saying about staying in school.”

Kecia Jackson in San Diego, CA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to inform parents about the options available for their children’s education. For our event we will be gathering students and parents to discuss the choices made and future choices for our children.  And to get the kids perspective.”

Vanessa Saucedo in Beaumont, CA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate homeschooling. For our event we will picnic at the park with our NSCW gear.”

Classical Conversations in Riverside, CA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to provide information to parents interested in homeschooling their children. The event will feature a community event held at Riverside Staples Shopping Center.”

Millennium High School in Tracy, CA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate our students, parents, teachers and staff. Students will create posters at lunch time to hang as to why they have chosen to attend our high school, rather than the other high schools in our town. We will also celebrate our teachers for choosing to work at our school with coffee and donuts to show our appreciation.”

Ackerman Charter School District, Bowman Charter School in Auburn, CA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to share what makes our school great with our community. The event will feature an All School Rally”

Connecting Waters Charter Schools in Waterford, CA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show our school spirit. Our students and families plan on wearing their yellow scarves in support of NSCW.”

Chartwell School in Seaside, CA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show our school spirit. The event will feature a scavenger hunt with questions and activities. Teachers are in stations: Students record all their answers in a graphic organizer, to be used later for a writing assignment”

Academy of the Redwoods, Early College High School in Eureka, CA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to shine a positive spotlight on our school. We will be handing out scarfs and taking pictures of students to post on our FB page.”

Sky Mountain Charter School in Redlands, CA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show our school spirit. We will be hosting a park day at Brookside Park for our families. We will have special activities and games planned.”

Good Shepherd Lutheran School in Los Angeles, CA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show appreciation to families and teachers for making our school great. The event will feature Good Shepherd will talk about school choice at chapel and take pictures of students wearing scarves”

Stockdale Christian School in Bakersfield, CA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to shine a positive spotlight on our school. The event will feature event: Tuesday, January 28th, Bakersfield Mayor Karen Goh to present a proclamation to Stockdale Christian School with media presence.”

Vineyard Alternative School in Livermore, CA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to shine a positive spotlight on our school. As all students check-in at the front office to enter school grounds, they will complete a sticky note explaining why Vineyard is such a great place to be or why Vineyard is their school of choice. The stickies will be arranged using the word RAVEN, the school’s mascot. This will be displayed in the office.”

Solano Christian Academy in Fairfield, CA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to shine a positive spotlight on our school. We will give each student a scarf and have them take pictures together, celebrating our school. We will also have a special chapel where all of the students will come together. We will have a few students come up and share why they like/support our school.”

St. Hyacinth Academy in San Jacinto, CA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to share what makes our school great with our community. We start off with a mass at our parish on Jan. 26, and an Open House right after. Throughout the week, we have different scheduled activities, like Career Day, Yellow day, and crazy sock day.”

Linda M Williamson in Moreno Valley, CA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to shine a positive spotlight on our school. We designate each day with a fun activity like favorite sport day, favorite superhero day, crazy hat/hair day, etc. We hand out the scarves at the beginning of the week.”

Trinity Lutheran Christian School in Anaheim Hills, CA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate our students, parents, teachers and staff. The event will feature our Musical Theater cast who will be performing two songs at the Queen Mary NSCW showcase on the 29th. Through out the week we raffle off the “Yellow” scarfs to registered students. Our students love the scarves. Some of our students will be joining two other Lutheran school’s and cleaning up the city in the area. Our students write about why they love our school and we raffle off prizes for submissions.”

River Springs Charter School, Magnolia Academy in Riverside, CA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to shine a positive spotlight on our school. Our staff will wear the scarf all week, along with posters announcing National School Choice. Then our Cheer Team will lead our students in the dance. In class, students will write why they love their school. Pictures will be taken and posted in our newsletter and on Facebook.”

Blue Oak Charter School in Chico, CA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show our school spirit. The event will include promoting choice on our social media pages and weekly newsletter.”

Bridges Child Development Center in Hemet, CA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate our students, parents, teachers and staff. The event will feature our kids wearing the scarfs and taking lots of pictures!”

The Alexandria Academy in West Hills, CA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to raise awareness about different education options. Every year, we hand out scarves and participate in community fairs which promote school choice. We hand out brochures to parents who want alternatives in education but who do not know what is available for their children.”

Edward Kemble Elementary School in Sacramento, CA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate our students, parents, teachers and staff. The event will feature a community walk with our students, teachers and parents to celebrate the diversity, collaboration, and learning that is taking place at our school.”

Our Lady of Malibu School in Malibu, CA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to share what makes our school great with our community. The event will celebrate Catholic Schools’ Week during that week. We will recognize the school at the 11:00 a.m. Mass on Sunday. During the week we will recognize each group: students, teachers, community, those who help us and Family and Friends. We’ll also conduct Kindergarten Round Up and an Admission Day event.”

Kings Valley Academy II in Hanford, CA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to raise awareness about different education options. The event will feature School Choice Week with fun activities and dress up days at our school”

South Sutter Charter School in Placerville, CA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate our students, parents, teachers and staff. The event will feature a social media campaign and photo contest”

California School Choice in Pasadena, CA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to raise awareness about the importance and benefits of school choice. At the event we will be presenting a group of speakers such as Gina Gleason of Faith and Public Policy, Vicki Alger public policy expert, and Rebecca Friedrichs author of “Standing up to Goliath””

Pacific Research Institute in Sacramento, CA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to Discuss K-12 school choice policies and opportunities. As California celebrates National School Choice Week, the future of charter schools is uncertain following legislation enacted in 2019.  On January 31, Pacific Research Institute Senior Director of Education Studies Lance Izumi will lead a panel of education reform experts at the State Capitol in Sacramento in discussing the impact of last year’s legislative changes, 2020 legislative efforts that could impact school choice, and reform ideas to preserve and expand school choice options for students and parents.”

Asian Industry Business 2 Business in Claremont, CA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to raise awareness of education options for children. We are hosting an event on 2/1, from 10:00 am -1:00 pm. There will be an exhibit hall of schools to choose from.”

Purr Purr in Fairfield, CA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show local support for school choice through the power of the internet.”

K&S Homeschool Academy in Redding, CA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to raise awareness about homeschooling. We will be walking to local government agencies and participating at local events”

Classical Conversations – Bakersfield in Bakersfield, CA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to provide information to parents interested in homeschooling their children. We are offering a free “Explore Homeschooling” conference with refreshments, information, and homeschooling parent panels!”

Sage Oaks in Whittier, CA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to raise awareness about homeschooling. We will list reasons we are Thankful to be able to home school.”

Kreis Life Learners in Tehachapi, CA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to let families discover more about homeschooling. The event will feature reading books and poetry, do our math, play games, and watch the documentaries on education throughout history.”

Inspire mission vista in San Jacinto, CA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to shine a positive spotlight on homeschooling. We are celebrating by being thankful we have the choice to homeschool.”

Classical Conversations in Chico, CA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to let families discover more about homeschooling. The event will feature Our Classical Conversations community Open House on our community gathering day (January 30th).”

Inspire charter in Riverside, CA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show local support for homeschoolers. The event will feature a Park Day with other homeschool families and we will hang signs and write messages on my car while driving around town.”

Classical Conversations of Palo Cedro in Palo Cedro, CA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to let families discover more about homeschooling. We are hosting an Open House!”

Kimberly Lemus from Tustin, CA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to raise awareness of education options for children. For the event we will share on my pages about school choice, promote in person and also have on my mom’s blog.”

Carmen Rodriguez from Woodland Hills, CA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to raise awareness of education options for children. For the event we will talking to others about the importance of education and learning in a non traditional school setting.”

Muriel Blevec from Tarzana, CA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to inform parents about the options available for their children’s education. For the event we will spread the word”

Patty Norwood from Riverside, CA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate students, parents, teachers, and school leaders. For the event we will celebrate early start reading, promoting how important it is to start reading to your child early. Setting up books for appropriate age and celebrating the teachers who help our children read on a daily basis.”

Yvette Gil from Fresno, CA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate students, parents, teachers, and school leaders. For the event we will I want all the kids to know school is important and not to let poverty stop you.”

Emilia Castillo from San Diego, CA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to raise awareness about the importance of effective education for children. For the event we will I plan to share and inform what school choice is. Share at local school meetings I attend every month. Handout, scarves, bookmarks, pins and pens!”

For the event we will be using our NSCW supplies to help show how important it is to read to your children at and early age. As parents we too can do our part to help the teachers  as well.”
