By: National School Choice Week Team

In Connecticut, National School Choice Week will feature 409 events and activities. Every event is unique, and all schools, homeschool groups, organizations, and families celebrate in different ways. To give you an idea of the types of celebrations taking place this January in Connecticut, here are just a few that participants have shared with the NSCW team:

Harry A. Conte West Hills Magnet School in New Haven, CT will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate our students, parents, teachers and staff. The event will feature a week celebrating school choice during morning “Crew” sessions and through announcements. Students in the upper grades will complete writing prompts centered around school choice.”

Saint Lawrence School in West Haven, CT will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show our school spirit. It has become an annual event for us to allow our students to invite two special guests to join them for lunch.  We have two seatings for lunch (Grades Pk-3) in the morning and another seating around 12:30 for grades 4-8.  We do this each year the last week of January, which is when we celebrate Catholic School’s Week.  This year’s event will be on Friday, January 31st.  The adult guests are treated to a special lunch including soup, sandwiches, and dessert, while the students have the school lunch for the day with an ice cream treat.  The best part of the students sitting with their special guests is that they get to not only eat with them, show off their school, but also to play Bingo games.  The prizes are those golden National School Choice Week scarves which the children as well as the adults love winning!! We lined the walls of our cafeteria with all the wonderful posters and banners that you send.  THANK YOU!”
