Selection of events in District of Columbia

In District of Columbia, National School Choice Week will feature 154 events and activities. Every event is unique, and all schools, homeschool groups, organizations, and families celebrate in different ways. To give you an idea of the types of celebrations taking place this January in District of Columbia, here are just a few that participants have shared with the NSCW team:

 

Mary McLeod Bethune Day Academy Public Charter School in Washington, DC will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show our school spirit. On Monday-PD Day for Staff: We will wear school clothing to show pride. Tuesday-Friday: Student spirit week to celebrate grades from the end of the quarter and interim assessment progress. Scarves will be distributed to top students. Teachers are decorating doors to support school choice week.”

I Dream Public Charter School in Washington, DC will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to share what makes our school great with our community. We are a first-year charter school hosting our second Open House ever! It would be great to leverage the attention and importance of National School Choice Week to spread the word for our Open House. Our Open House is 1/25 and is a kick-off event to the week”

Yolanda Stewart in Washington, DC will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to raise awareness of education options for children. By volunteering and passing out event items and encouraging families to join”

Howard University Middle School of Mathematics & Science in Washington, DC will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to shine a positive spotlight on our school. HUMS plans to celebrate by having a school spirit activity which involves our spirit team, faculty, staff and students. During this event, we will shoot a video that promotes school spirit and shows what our school has to offer.”

Ms. P’s Child & Family Services in Washington, DC will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to demonstrate the positive impact of homeschooling. Ms. P’s children and parents will complete a family photo shoot with our scarfs and we will also promote our event on my social media platforms.”

Early Childhood Academy Public Charter School in Washington, DC will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to shine a positive spotlight on our school. During school choice week, our school with host a drop off pep rally for our students and families. Also, students will create posters and write essays depicting why they love ECA.”

AppleTree Early Learning Public Charter School in Washington, DC will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to raise awareness about different education options. We passed out the scarves to kick off re-enrollment and the opening of the lottery here in Washington, DC. We will be having our kindergarten transition meeting the Friday before National School Choice week to better support our families in selecting schools for next school year. We will have all of the free items posted around our school during National School Choice Week.”
