Selection of events in Iowa

In Iowa, National School Choice Week will feature 444 events and activities. Every event is unique, and all schools, homeschool groups, organizations, and families celebrate in different ways. To give you an idea of the types of celebrations taking place this January in Iowa, here are just a few that participants have shared with the NSCW team:

 

Kanawha Christian School in Kanawha, IA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to shine a positive spotlight on our school. We are planning on a couple of activities each day. Day 1 is our American Heart Challenge Kickoff, Gratitude Journal, Word Search. Tuesday – Yellow & Blue Spirit Day,School Cheer, Journal, Quiz. Wednesday – Weather Activity, Journal, Crossword. Thursday- Thank you cards, Journal, Maze. Friday-School History Scavenger Hunt, Pajama Day, Journal, Word Search.”

Newton Chrisstian Daily School in Newton, IA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate our students, parents, teachers and staff. We will present scarves to the kids. Post signs and display materials at math parents night.”

Zion Lutheran School in Wilton, IA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show appreciation to families and teachers for making our school great. The event will feature a different theme each day. Ex: school colors (blue and white), favorite hat day, crazy sock day, favorite sports team, and pajama day. On Friday each child will receive their yellow scarf.”

St. Patrick School in Anamosa, IA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to share what makes our school great with our community. The event will feature several activities each day of the week.”

Kanawha Christian School in Kanawha, IA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show our school spirit. We are planning a variety of activities all week to build school unity and spirit. One of our highlights will be a scavenger hunt learning the history of our school.”

Hites Homeschooling in Waterloo, IA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show local support for homeschoolers. By giving the kids each a scarf to wear and another scarf they can give to someone they know.”

Sacred Heart School in Boone, IA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate our students, parents, teachers and staff. We will begin our week with Mass followed by a Knights of Columbus breakfast. Over the week we have many fun activities planned (picnic lunch, “souper” bowl games, flashlight reading, etc) and will end with a dinner and all-school carnival on Friday.”

BBS Preschool and Childcare in Sioux City, IA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show our school spirit. We are going to have the children color coordinate for the week. Each day will be a different color. We will order pizza for lunch on Friday”

Maloney’s Homeclass in Onawa, IA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to bring attention to homeschooling as a form of school choice. The event will feature the NSCW items and learning more about school choice and making a game out of them”

Taylor homeschool academy in Davenport, IA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to raise awareness about homeschooling. We plan to reach out to other families to help them understand what homeschool really is.”

Amy Deyette from Lake City, IA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to raise awareness of education options for children. For the event we will post photos wearing scarves, videos wearing scarves and promoting school, at home activities with friends and families promoting school and fundraisers”

Julie Trachta from Cedar Rapids, IA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to raise awareness of education options for children. For the event we will be posting on my Facebook page and tweeting.”

Amy Deyette from Lake City, IA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to raise awareness of education options for children. For the event we will post pictures, plan trips with students, make videos, have an assembly, get together & do artsy, crafty things. There are all kinds of things you can do to celebrate National School Week!!”

Jessica Maloney from Onawa, IA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate homeschooling. For the event we will make a project of no child left behind”

Carmen Walker from Ottumwa, IA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate homeschooling.”
