Selection of events in Maryland

In Maryland, National School Choice Week will feature 773 events and activities. Every event is unique, and all schools, homeschool groups, organizations, and families celebrate in different ways. To give you an idea of the types of celebrations taking place this January in Maryland, here are just a few that participants have shared with the NSCW team:

 

The Banner School in Frederick, MD will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to share what makes our school great with our community. The event will feature a Community Open House during the school day on January 29th so that parents can bring their children to experience our school community.”

FELLOWSHIP CHRISTIAN SCHOOL in Germantown, MD will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show our school spirit. The event will feature all students and staff assembled with putting on the yellow scarf and celebrate school.”

Elvaton Christian Academy in Millersville, MD will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to share what makes our school great with our community. Starting Monday, January 27th we will dress up as a Fictional Character, Tuesday – we are dressing in our favorite pair of pj’s, Wednesday – Wacky day, Thursday- favorite color, and Friday- we wear our Yellow scarfs and as much navy blue and yellow as you can.”

James Johnson in Baltimore, MD will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show our school spirit. During our chapel, each class will come in with a chant, song or poem on why the chose H.O.P.E Academy and why they love their school.”

Classical Conversations of Severna Park in , MD will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to shine a positive spotlight on homeschooling. We will have a pizza party.”

Classical Conversations, Colesville in Silver Spring, MD will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to demonstrate the positive impact of homeschooling. We are holding a graduating seniors panel discussion.  What plans are they pursuing?  Has homeschooling prepared them well for applying for college?  Was it all worth it?  Families can hear from homeschooling high schoolers how they feel about the whole experience.”

Frederick Christian Academy in Frederick, MD will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to shine a positive spotlight on our school. I plan to hand out the scarves, take some pictures, and do some social media posts. ”

Lisa Andrews in Hagerstown, MD will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate homeschooling. For our event my 9-year old daughter (in fourth grade) and I will wear our scarves proud every day when we go during National School Choice Week.  We have other homeschooling families (friends in our area) that are going to share the scarves with too.  We will all wear them and want to let everyone know how proud we are to be homeschooling our smart children where we can cater to their educational needs.”

Benita Elcock in Hyattsville, MD will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate students, parents, teachers, and school leaders. For our event I plan to pass the scarves out to all of the teachers at my son’s school, he’s currently in Pre-K2.”

St. Matthew’s Early Education Center in Bowie, MD will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show our school spirit. The event will feature a schoolwide photo”

Kelly Mazzeo in Burtonsville, MD will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to share what makes our school great with our community. Our students and staff celebrate the advantages of our area schools and what each my offer that can help families. Every school is special. We play a matching game to which Echelon program matches to a community need.”

Kindercare Learning Center in Eldersburg, MD will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show appreciation to families and teachers for making our school great. We will be celebrating with an open house in the evening with a spaghetti dinner/salad/bread dinner. After the meal everyone will get a fortune cookie since we are fortunate to have them with us. This will be open for the entire community as well in hopes for others to come see our facility and what we do.”

Michigan Connections Academy in Okemos, MI will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to share what makes our school great with our community. We have families celebrate at the beginning of the year field trip where they make signs and wear scarves. We then use items and pictures to make a video that we share at our state’s event at the State Capitol.”

Francis T Evans Elementary School in Clinton, MD will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show our school spirit. The event will feature a Flash Mob dance to “Best Day”, decorating Banners, A to Z at Francis T”

Frederick Classical Charter School in Frederick, MD will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to share what makes our school great with our community. The event will feature a “Founder’s Day” to have the members listen to how our school got started and the efforts they hope to see come to fruition.”

Glyndon Elementary School in Reisterstown, MD will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show our school spirit. As a National School of Character, our event will focus on the Gifts of Character.”

Damascus Road Community Baptist Church in Cockeysville, MD will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to raise awareness about the importance of effective education for children. The event will feature a lunch and a lecture on the importance of there power of voice and on the importance of education.”

St. Ignatious Hickory in Forest Hill, MD will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to demonstrate the positive impact of homeschooling. We plan on having a meet up at a local park with a few other homeschool groups int he area.”
