Selection of events in Michigan

In Michigan, National School Choice Week will feature 1,778 events and activities. Every event is unique, and all schools, homeschool groups, organizations, and families celebrate in different ways. To give you an idea of the types of celebrations taking place this January in Michigan, here are just a few that participants have shared with the NSCW team:

 

Reformed Heritage Christian School in Kalamazoo, MI will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to help local families learn more about our school. We are hosting a “LET IT SNOW” event at the school on Tuesday. Kids and families are invited between 11-1 to participate in sledding, snow related activities and enjoy a snow themed lunch.”

Eagle Creek Academy in Oakland, MI will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to share what makes our school great with our community. We have handed out the scarves to our wonderful teachers & administration to wear throughout the week. We plan on using the activity pack and the “I Love My School” sheets. So far, I have had our 2nd grade teacher confirm that she assigned her class an assignment to write a paragraph about what they love about our school. We will make sure we capture some great moments we have during the week and we will be uploading!”

West Michigan Lutheran High School Association in Wyoming, MI will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show our school spirit. We have combined this week with our Homecoming week. 1 special celebration every school day culminating with a Homecoming Home game on Friday, January 31.”

Zion Lutheran School in Auburn, MI will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to help local families learn more about our school. We hang up the posters, hand out thank yous to parents, and play school games and hand out prizes.”

McMonagle Elementary in Flint, MI will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate our students, parents, teachers and staff. The event will feature Family Movie Night 1/26/2020. Families will come and enjoy a movie in the school gym.”

Escuela Avancemos Academy in Detroit, MI will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate our students, parents, teachers and staff. We will be sending 14 of our students with our amazing first grade teacher, Kim Sedlmeyer, to our state capitol to perform ballet.”

Lake Superior Academy in Sault Ste. Marie, MI will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to shine a positive spotlight on our school. We will give out School Choice scarves”

Charlevoix Montessori Academy for the Arts in Charlevoix, MI will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show our school spirit. Charlevoix Montessori Academy for the Arts will perform a dance for National School Choice Week. The dance will be posted on the school’s Facebook page.”

Trinity Lutheran School in Conklin, MI will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to shine a positive spotlight on our school. We will celebrate in conjunction with our National Lutheran School Week celebration which we are actually doing a week early, so we began our celebration today. We will have themed days like crazy sock/hat day, pajama day, picture book palooza, service projects etc.”

Crossroads Charter Academy in Big Rapids, MI will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to shine a positive spotlight on our school. We will be creating a short video of several students explaining why they chose this school and what makes them stay. We will also be taking several pictures with the yellow scarves and blowing up our social media pages throughout the entire week. Cheerleaders at the games, ski club on the slopes, elementary students with the mascot will all be wearing the scarves and we’ll be there to get great pics!”

Academic and Career Education Academy in midland, MI will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to shine a positive spotlight on our school. We will make sure our students have a good understanding of all the different opportunities our school has to offer. Reevaluate advertisement options for our alternative education programs.”

Bad Axe Middle School in Bad Axe, MI will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to shine a positive spotlight on our school. The event will feature During S.H.A.R.P. (Monthly Building) Assembly recognize the positive events/aspects of the school & distribute scarves.”

St. Germaine Catholic School in St. Clair Shores, MI will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate our students, parents, teachers and staff. The event will feature an Open House Sunday, January 26, Fun with class buddies January 27, All school Mass, service day, food drive January 28, STEM Day January 29, Love our animals January 30, School Spirit Day January 31.”

John F. Farrell-Emmett Elementary in Emmett, MI will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate our students, parents, teachers and staff. We will celebrate our awesome school by encouraging students to write/draw about the reasons John F. Farrell-Emmett Elementary is THE place to learn! Students will have the opportunity to join us for special dress up days, and will participate in classroom activities that highlight all of the wonderful things about our school, students, teachers, staff, and community. Students’ posters/art/writings will be displayed throughout the school so everyone who enters our building will know!”

Michigan Connections Academy in Okemos, MI will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to share what makes our school great with our community. We have families celebrate at the beginning of the year field trip where they make signs and wear scarves. We then use items and pictures to make a video that we share at our state’s event at the State Capitol.”

Felicia Garland in Detroit, MI will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to raise awareness about the importance of effective education for children. For our event we will will be giving the box to the principal of my grandchildren’s school”

Judith Sutton in Quincy, MI will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to inform parents about the options available for their children’s education. For our event we will be passing out materials and taking pictures and videos at the school where our partnership program takes place in Three Rivers Michigan.”

Audry Halliday in Monroe, MI will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to raise awareness of education options for children. For our event we will give the scarfs to different kids of different ages and talk to them about how school is important and do some activities to show how school is fun and is needed.”

St. Mary Catholic School in Pinckney, MI will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to shine a positive spotlight on our school. The event will feature a VIP lunch on Wednesday for the students and a guest each. There are activities each day to celebrate. We also took pictures with the students in their scarves and posters for Facebook.”

Cole Academy in Lansing, MI will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate our students, parents, teachers and staff. The event will feature passing out the scarves with thank you notes to all our new families”

Great Lakes Academy in Pontiac, MI will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show appreciation to families and teachers for making our school great. We will provide scarves to our students and let them know that this is just one way of showing them that we care by keeping them warm during the winter. We also want them to know that we appreciate that they, as well as their parents, have selected Great Lakes Academy as their school of choice.”

Country Hills Montessori in Farmington Hills, MI will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show appreciation to families and teachers for making our school great. We plan a week long of activities for the students: Monday-Parent Appreciation Day, Tuesday-The children will wear their yellow scarves, Wednesday- The children will write letters telling us what they like best about Country Hills Montessori, Thursday-Ice Cream Sundaes, Friday-Spirit day with yellow scarves.”

American Montessori Academy in Westland, MI will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to Show our school spirit. The event will feature a different activity each day. Decorate lockers and doors, wear school spirit wear, pass out gift to parents, wear yellow, dance party and Middle School videos of “Why They Love AMA””

Forest Academy in Kalamazoo, MI will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to share what makes our school great with our community. We will be handing out the scarves and having students write about why they like their school. We may do a few video clips of students reading their papers to post online as well.”

Blissfield Elementary School in Blissfield, MI will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show appreciation to families and teachers for making our school great. The event will feature daily drawings and photos of students with signage. Will post on school website”

Concord Academy Petoskey in Petoskey, MI will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate our students, parents, teachers and staff. The event will feature our first and second grade students learning and performing the dance for our entire K-12 student body.”

South Olive Christian School in Holland, MI will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to shine a positive spotlight on our school. We are planning on celebrating it as our “School spirit week” with fun dress-up days, photo-ops, “family group” activities in which kids of all grades in small groups (mixed grade groupings) write about what they love about our school, thank their parents and color in pictures.”

Granite Falls Area Chamber of Commerce in Granite Falls, MI will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate local schools. We will celebrate jointly with the Granite Falls Library to promote the Bert Raney Elementary School in Granite Falls, via National School Choice Week during the Library’s “Wee Read” program.”

High Point Virtual Academy in West Branch, MI will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to shine a positive spotlight on homeschooling. The event will share with others how great school is”

Jennifer Hall from Interlochen, MI will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate students, parents, teachers, and school leaders. For the event we will let our teachers know how important they are”

Kristina Bradley from Adrian, MI will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to raise awareness of education options for children. For the event we will celebrate with my four kids”

Katrina Adams from Westland, MI will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to raise awareness about the importance of effective education for children. For the event we will be available to meet with families and answer questions about the different choices available to them.”

Kellie Lytle from Three Rivers, MI will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate students, parents, teachers, and school leaders. For the event we are going to personally honor and thank my kids teachers.”

Kelly Mcfadden from Merrill, MI will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to raise awareness of education options for children. For the event we will tell friends and family about options available in our area.”

Charity Lovins from Frankfort, MI will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate homeschooling. For the event we will host a fundraiser for our end of the year field trip.”
