Selection of events in Mississippi

In Mississippi, National School Choice Week will feature 640 events and activities. Every event is unique, and all schools, homeschool groups, organizations, and families celebrate in different ways. To give you an idea of the types of celebrations taking place this January in Mississippi, here are just a few that participants have shared with the NSCW team:

 

Genesis One Christian School in Mendenhall, MS will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show appreciation to families and teachers for making our school great. Our students colored worksheets, played games and then took pictures with their signs and scarves!”

St. John’s Day School in Laurel, MS will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate our students, parents, teachers and staff. We plan to hand out scarves at our chapel program and get the school excited about School Choice Week.”

Classical Conversations of Central MS in , MS will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to provide information to parents interested in homeschooling their children. We are hosting a Homeschool 101 for parents in the area who are interested in knowing more about homeschooling in MS.”

Magnolia Gulf Coast Beta Club in saucier, MS will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to demonstrate the positive impact of homeschooling. Magnolia Gulf Coast Beta Club is coordinating a Pass Christian Harbor beach clean up (meeting at playground) with Citizen Science tracking and a poster contest for National School Choice Week.”

New Jerusalem Christian School in Jackson, MS will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to shine a positive spotlight on our school. We will discuss in each class and with parents the importance of choice in making the best decisions for our children.”

Community Christian School in Meridian, MS will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate our students, parents, teachers and staff. The event will feature National School Choice is explained to students who then receive yellow scarves and have pictures made.”

Gwendolyn Kennard in Moss Point, MS will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to raise awareness about the importance of effective education for children. For our event we will leave flyers at different business and send home flyers with students”

Elizabeth Russell in Vancleave, MS will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate homeschooling. For our event we will have activities that include worksheets, projects and pictures.”

Strayhorn Preschool and Daycare in Sarah, MS will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show our school spirit. We are planning to let the children create a bulletin board of why they love their school. Since we are little, fancy dance routines are a little difficult for us still, we are going to dance and wave our scarves around to the song Best Day of our life and parade around our school.”

The Pentecostal Christian Academy in Meridian, MS will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to shine a positive spotlight on our school. The event will feature a week of activities and a special dinner for the parents”

Durant Elementary in Durant, MS will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to Celebrate our students, parents, teachers and staff. We will demonstrate to students, parents and the entire school body know the importance of team work in the school.”

Indianola Career and Technical Center in Indianola, MS will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to raise awareness about different education options. We have invited other schools out to see how the world of career and technical education is evolving. We wanted to make our community aware of the many educational tracks that we offer to our students. We would love to see our students go to a University for 4 years and get a bachelor’s degree, however in today’s world some students need to be workforce ready we are preparing them to be productive citizens by exposing them to technology.”

Jefferson County Elementary School in Fayette, MS will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate our students, parents, teachers and staff. We will take class and staff photos with participants wearing NSCW scarves and holding signs.”

Gwen Kennard from Moss Point, MS will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to raise awareness of education options for children. For the event we will post on Facebook so parents can share news and send out news letter to parents.”

Chrystal Blaylock from Baldwyn, MS will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to inform parents about the options available for their children’s education. For the event we will have a family get together.”
