Selection of events in New Jersey

In New Jersey, National School Choice Week will feature 1,136 events and activities. Every event is unique, and all schools, homeschool groups, organizations, and families celebrate in different ways. To give you an idea of the types of celebrations taking place this January in New Jersey, here are just a few that participants have shared with the NSCW team:

 

Lizanne Coyne in Manahawkin, NJ will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to raise awareness about different education options. St. Mary Academy is co-celebrating National School Choice Week with Catholic Schools Week. For NSCW, we are promoting the Anti-Bully Movement and are bringing in Magician Ken Northridge to present the “No Bully” Magic Show. According to his program, students experience entertaining lessons about the need for being friends, not bullies. Lessons include: The different types of bullying, the differences between bullies, victims and witnesses, six strategies for the victim to respond to the bullies, three ways witnesses can help, the long-term effect bullying has on its victims, and the qualities of friendship.”

Cherrywood Academy in Clementon, NJ will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to raise awareness about different education options. We celebrate inclusive schools week every year.”

Classical Academy in Clifton, NJ will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate our students, parents, teachers and staff. Classical will host a week long array of school wide activities including: A free donut breakfast for all students and staff, a visit from the Mayor, Art Projects, School Choice themed contests and School Choice activities conducted in each class. We will also display school choice posters and school choice projects based on class activities around the school.”

New Hope School in Clifton, NJ will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to help local families learn more about our school. We are having an Open House on Wednesday, January 29”

Looking glass children’s center in Bloomfield, NJ will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to share what makes our school great with our community. All our students (3-7yrs old) and our staff will be given the scarves provided and will be doing the dance every morning for the whole week next week. Weather permitting , we will do the field demo dance outside; if not , we will be indoor. Posters will be displayed in our premises.”

Saint Joseph School in Oradell, NJ will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to help local families learn more about our school. We will have students read at all Masses to open the week, host an academic Jeopardy game, a faculty-student volleyball game and have our school open to visitors all week! Our PE teacher will teach the dance and we will have a grade 8 “flash mob” during the volleyball game.”

Paterson charter for science and technology in Paterson, NJ will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to shine a positive spotlight on our school. We will be celebrating NSCW this year by wearing our yellow scarfs and do different activities.”

Jerry Davis Center in Manville, NJ will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to raise awareness of education options for children. We are decorating our hallway with posters, serving a parent appreciation breakfast, and finishing up with a Pajama Day.”

Rosanne Carbonara in Sewell, NJ will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate students, parents, teachers, and school leaders. The Bankbridge Elementary School is participating in a 4 day celebration of school of choice starting with having each of our students and staff identify why they love their school by completing the I love my school because Placard. . As we have been moving through the week, we are completing multiple work sheets provided as well as unifying with a finger painting activity to share how we are united and kind. Our celebration will be ending on Friday January 24, 2020 with a pep rally where we will have a student recite our Pledge of Respect followed by a group of students reading their placard to their friends. Keeping in mind, our elementary campus is 100% self contained MD, BD and Deaf so sharing with their friends may be a challenge.”

Ironbound Catholic Academy in Newark, NJ will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate our students, parents, teachers and staff. I.C.A. Cafe is one of the most popular activities. Parents come to the cafeteria, Grade 8 serves coffee and pastries while all other grades perform. That is how we show our appreciation to our community.We also celebrate Student Appreciation and Teacher Appreciation Days.”

Bergen County Christian Academy in Hackensack, NJ will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate our students, parents, teachers and staff. We are going with the idea of thanking our parents for making OUR school THEIR choice with various events daily. Mon=Muffin for Mom, Tues=Donuts for Dad, Wed=social media contest and a gift for each family thanking them, Thurs=street corner rally with scarves and pompoms unveiling our new banners, Fri=thank you gift for each family. Below, our goal is to celebrate our students and parents but also help local families become aware of our school”

St.Theresa School in Kenilworth, NJ will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to shine a positive spotlight on our school. The event will feature an host open house for the week along with a “Student Showcase” which exhibits the children’s work.

The school also sells paper lemons for Alex’s Lemonade stand supporting research to cure childhood cancer. We have a Cultural Day along and finally a Yellow Scarf Day announcing the winners of the Scarf Contest.”

Transfiguration Academy in Bergenfield, NJ will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to shine a positive spotlight on our school. The event will feature Senior prom(for senior citizens) which 8th grade hosts, Pajama day, Family fun Night, pk & kindergarten showcase”

Sprout U School of the Arts in Trenton, NJ will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate our students, parents, teachers and staff. The event will feature the National Choice Dance 1/29/20 @ the Liberty Science Center.”

Paterson Charter School for Science & Technology in Paterson, NJ will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to shine a positive spotlight on our school. The event will feature an activity for School Choice Week.”

Thomas Edison EnergySmart Charter School in Somerset, NJ will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to help local families learn more about our school. The event will feature Making the Most of My Charter School Panel Discussion – Every child deserves a quality education that speaks to his/her unique talents, interests and individual needs.Join moderator Harry Lee, President of the NJ Charter School Assoc., and his panel of experts including parents and educators to learn about quality opportunities for your child in Central NJ”

CiudadDeLuzEducationEnrichment in Pleasantville, NJ will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to raise awareness about different education options. The event will feature speaking to parents and families about school choice.”

St. Joseph Academy in Bogota, NJ will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to help local families learn more about our school. The event will feature Open House -Sunday 1/26 11-2  Tuesday 1/28  9-11 and 5-7.  International Day Mon 1/27  Talent Show Thurs 1/30 Mass Friday 1/31 8:00”

(Our) HOPE Christian Academy in Ringoes, NJ will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to shine a positive spotlight on our school. The event will feature handing out the scarves.”

Marion P. Thomas Charter School PAC Academy Campus in Newark, NJ will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to shine a positive spotlight on our school. On January 28th at 3:00 pm we will host a school wide assembly with scholars chanting, cheerleaders stepping and scholars dressed in school colors. Teachers are informed to create banners and poster boards with our school promotion.”

Middlesex County STEM Charter School in Perth Amboy, NJ will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to share what makes our school great with our community. We will have the students write about why they love their school and hold a small pep rally.”

Benjamin Banneker Preparatory Charter School in Willingboro, NJ will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show our school spirit. We have 2 campuses therefore we will be doing 2 different types of activities,  1, dance to the theme song. 2, photos of scholars doing various activities.”

Paula Stashak in South Bound Brook, NJ will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate students, parents, teachers, and school leaders. For our event we plan to celebrate by sharing with my daughter’s friends and family by discussing what the children want to learn and put together something. We will all make a big lunch and snacks to make it fun and enjoyable.”

Vikki Weems in Port Norris, NJ will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to raise awareness about the importance of effective education for children. For our event we will spread the word by dropping off information at our family center.”

The Queen City Academy Charter School in Plainfield, NJ will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate students, parents, teachers, and school leaders. For our event we will be focusing on the parents and scholars who make up and support our school community. We are hosting a mini week of events, with Mom’s Muffins, Dad’s Donuts, school tours, and school wide assembly celebrating why they chose The Queen City Academy Charter School.”

Damaris Rodriguez in Little Falls, NJ will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate students, parents, teachers, and school leaders. For our event my children and I will take pictures with signs and post on Facebook. We will talk about the different school choices we have in the USA.”

K’nira Wallace in Newark, NJ will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to raise awareness about the importance and benefits of school choice. For our event my son and I are giving the scarves, stickers and posters to students and teachers at his school.”

Stephenie Lee in Bayonne, NJ will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to raise awareness of education options for children. My daughter learns multiple languages, such as Chinese, through books and songs at home with her mother. She has become fluent and bilingual. Natalie will be reading a book or two in Chinese to celebrate National School Choice Week to be awareness to different education options for children and to show the importance of support, such as parents.”

Bergen County Christian Academy in Hackensack, NJ will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to help local families learn more about our school. The event will feature cheering with scarves and cheer-leading pom poms, donuts for dad, muffins for mom, kick off of our new brochure”

Unity Charter School in Morristown, NJ will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to raise awareness about different education options. The event will feature learning through song, dance, art, writing, community events and more.”

Fields of Green Montessori School in Vernon, NJ will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show appreciation to families and teachers for making our school great. The event will feature an annual breakfast for parents, waited on and served by the students wearing their scarves.”

Alpha And Omega Christian School in Newark, NJ will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to share what makes our school great with our community. We will be posting photos and testimonials about our school on social media, we will also be having dress down day and we will have teachers and students pose for photos wearing their NSCW scarves.”

Krissy’s House in Mullica Hill, NJ will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to raise awareness about homeschooling. The event will feature Promoting Choice Schools and Homeschooling”

Latisha Knight from Wenonah, NJ will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate students, parents, teachers, and school leaders. Throughout the week, there will be a variety of activities that incorporates the daily teachings which will be enjoyed by the students, parents, and staff. Each day will be a different theme such as nutrition, art, music, wacky science and reading.”

Satefea Lovett from Browns Mills, NJ will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate students, parents, teachers, and school leaders. For the event we will printout coloring pages and activities to do with my daughter. We will also visit the local library.”

Bobbiejo Williams from Jackson, NJ will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate students, parents, teachers, and school leaders. For the event we will celebrate with my children and their teachers and classmates”

Charlotte Kelley from Somerset, NJ will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate students, parents, teachers, and school leaders. My family will be wearing our scarves everywhere we go including church and we will talk with parents about school choice.”

Yarelis Lozano from Pleasantville, NJ will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate students, parents, teachers, and school leaders. ”

Crystal Rispoli from Seaside Heights, NJ will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate traditional public schools. For the event I plan on teaching and really being more involved in my children’s, nieces’ and nephews’  future – it all starts with us”

Christina Griesbacher from Teaneck, NJ will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate students, parents, teachers, and school leaders. For the event I will be going to go visit my sons special needs class with school choice supplies.”
