In New York, National School Choice Week will feature 2,423 events and activities. Every event is unique, and all schools, homeschool groups, organizations, and families celebrate in different ways. To give you an idea of the types of celebrations taking place this January in New York, here are just a few that participants have shared with the NSCW team:

 

St. Peter Lutheran School, North Ridge in Lockport, NY will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to shine a positive spotlight on our school. We will celebrate by drawing pictures on the provided “I love my school because…” paper. I will also be passing out the provided yellow scarves to all the students and their families.”

Ss. Joachim and Anne in Queens Village, NY will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to shine a positive spotlight on our school. We are wearing Animal Prints on Tuesday to raise money for the devsted regions of Australia.”

Academyo Of The City Charter School in woodside, NY will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show our school spirit. The event will feature pictures, videos, interview to parents. teachers and staff meners”

The Children’s Center at CP in Commack, NY will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to help local families learn more about our school. We are incorporating our Winter Wonderland and M.O.V.E Philosopy with the event.”

Good shepherd Lutheran School in Plainview, NY will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to share what makes our school great with our community. We will encourage students and staff to wear Yellow on Monday January 27th, in addition to the yellow scarves.”

Bright Hope Academy Center in Schenectady, NY will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show our school spirit. All Day Reading Activity, in my opinion, is the best activity all of BHAC members love to do in their School Choice Day Celebration.”

Icahn Charter School 4 in Bronx, NY will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate our students, parents, teachers and staff. First, we will be handing out scarves to students and teachers on Monday. We are also having a parent workshop to highlight all of the exceptional things we are doing with our students; Spirit Week and an essay contest “Why I Love Icahn Charter School 4?””

St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in Shrub Oak, NY will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate our students, parents, teachers and staff. We are having our annual “Staff vs Students” Basketball gala. Lots of fun events and prizes will be handed out.”

Mother Teresa Academy in Clifton Park, NY will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show our school spirit. Every day we have a different activity planned to show our school spirit!”

Al-Noor School in Brooklyn, NY will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show our school spirit. Students will be encouraged to wear the National School Choice Week Colors (Yellow , Red)”

The Bridges Academy in West Islip, NY will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to help local families learn more about our school. We will celebrate National school choice week with an Open house on Friday, January 31st. At the Open house our students will perform the school choice dance for all attending.”

Chris Kong in Brooklyn, NY will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to raise awareness of education options for children.”

Esther Schreiber in Brooklyn, NY will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to inform parents about the options available for their children’s education. We go around to friends after school and share”

Monarch Homeschool in Victor, NY will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate homeschooling students and parents. The event will feature a potluck lunch and wearing our school choice gear for pictures.”

Life – Literacy Is For Everyone in Potsdam, NY will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to raise awareness about the importance of effective education for children. The event will feature encouraging my students to wear the scarves”

Millennium Development @ Bayview Community Center in Brooklyn, NY will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate our students, parents, teachers and staff. The event will feature the students in our program will writing about what good schools mean to them.”

Buffalo Hearing & Speech Center in Buffalo, NY will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate our students, parents, teachers and staff. We will be starting the week of January 26th with a circle introducing School Choice Week.  Small Group Activity- What they like about school. We will then make posters . Friday January 31st, we will have a school choice parade and march around the school with our school choice posters and scarves”

Sacred Heart Academy in Hempstead, NY will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to share what makes our school great with our community. The event will feature dress down day, assembly to celebrate our mission and uniqueness”

Syracuse Academy of Science Charter School in Syracuse, NY will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to shine a positive spotlight on our school. Each elementary student is writing a piece on why they love SAS. We are handing out the scarves to the writing contest winners and some of them will get to present at our Student of the Month ceremony. In addition, a survey was sent home to parents and we are sharing some of the reasons parents chose SAS as quotes on the announcements each morning. Our walls are filled with the School Choice Posters and we are having a “Wear Yellow for National School Choice” day that week!”

Al-Ihsan Academy in South Ozone Park, NY will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate our students, parents, teachers and staff. The event will feature an Open House”

Chatterbox Day School in East Islip, NY will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to share what makes our school great with our community. The event will feature a school spirit week to go along with National School Choice Week and the scarves will be distributed throughout the school to wear on Friday.”

PS/IS 288 Shirley Tanyhill in Brooklyn, NY will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to shine a positive spotlight on our school. The event will feature a PTA party and handing out swag so students can return wearing the scarves. This will help show school spirit.”

Pedro Reynoso in Hawthorne, NY will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to raise awareness about the importance of effective education for children. For our event the students will do the book activities in class starting Monday, January 31 and we will distribute the scarfs and posters to take pictures.”

Audrey Ayala Feliz in Waterloo, NY will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to raise awareness of education options for children. For our event I plan on handing scarves out and taking photos of the students with our signs and posting on social media. Spreading the word all week!”

Jaenle Moreland in Rochester, NY will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to inform parents about the options available for their children’s education. For our event we will be wearing school choice scarves and sharing pamphlets.”

PS 317 – Waterside in Queens, NY will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate our students, parents, teachers and staff. The event will feature a performance of the NSCW dance.”

Rochester Academy Charter School in Rochester, NY will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to share what makes our school great with our community. We will be handing out the scarves to students”

Battalion Christian Academy in Arverne, NY will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show appreciation to families and teachers for making our school great. We create a bulletin board with the children’s artwork on the school choice papers. We also take a class picture wearing our yellow scarves.”

Success Academy Charter Schools- Bronx 2 in Bronx, NY will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to share what makes our school great with our community. We are beginning a Nation Challenge throughout all grades K-4 so that teachers can help encourage them to get ready for the upcoming state tests. This should also help with their school culture.”

Schoharie High School in Schoharie, NY will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show our school spirit. The event will feature giving the scarves to personnel who positively influence students. I also plan on leaving the stickers in staff lounge for those interested”

Central Queens Academy Charter School in Elmhurst, NY will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show our school spirit. We will give out scarves, we created posters, we will take pictures.”

Southfield Institute in Staten Island, NY will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show our school spirit. Our students will participate in various activities. We will be taking pictures, sing songs, create poems, and celebrate us.”

Latham Christian Academy in Latham, NY will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate our students, parents, teachers and staff. We will be holding afternoon activities celebrating Christian schooling, including taking an all-school picture.”

The Calais School in Whippany, NY will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show our school spirit. The event will feature a performance of the School Choice dance and School Pride activities”

St. Francis DeSales- St. Stephen School in Geneva, NY will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to shine a positive spotlight on our school. The event will feature Buddy Day, VIP Day, Mass, Decade Day Dance, Super Friday, Scholastic Book Fair”

AL-Noor School in Brooklyn, NY will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show our school spirit. The event will feature We are asking the students to represent the National school choice week colors by wearing Red and Yellow. We are also decorating the school with the students.”

Kingston Catholic School in Kingston, NY will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show our school spirit. The event will feature During Catholic Schools week, our students are writing letters to their parents thanking them for sending them to Catholic School.”

Bronx Charter School for the Arts in Bronx, NY will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show appreciation to families and teachers for making our school great. The event will feature a pep rally during our school wide community meeting”

Bradford Central School in Bradford, NY will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate our students, parents, teachers and staff. We will award the scarves to the highest 2 classes with perfect attendance for January.”

Our Lady of Trust Catholic Academy in Brooklyn, NY will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show our school spirit. The event will feature Monday, Jan. 27th – Open House – 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Please join us and if you know anyone who is looking for a school, please send them our way. Religion Bee @ 1 pm. – Grs. 6, 7 & 8 (Gr. 5 will attend) Tuesday, Jan. 28th – Student Appreciation Day – Sport’s Day / Free Dress down/ Ice Cream Wednesday, Jan. 29th – Catholic Schools Week Mass @ 10 a.m. @ Shrine Church of St. Jude – please join us Religion Bee @ 1 p.m. – Grs. 3, 4 & 5 (Gr. 2 will attend) Thursday, Jan. 30th – Open House / School Spirit Assembly @ 9:00 a.m. Please join us Friday, Jan. 31st – Teacher/ Staff Appreciation Day”

St Peter of Alcantara in Port Washington, NY will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to share what makes our school great with our community. We are kicking off our week with a mass on Sunday followed by an open house and tours. Monday we are making ad then delivering Kindness rocks to our community. Tuesday we will celebrate our students with a special lunch and a sports night. Wednesday we have partnered with Operation Gratitude. Thursday is our PEP Rally and Faculty vs Student netball game. Friday we celebrate our teachers and end with our annual favorite CARPOOL KARAOKE in our gymnasium.”

Madge Warren in Cambria Heights, NY will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show our school spirit. We plan to celebrate by engaging our students in the classroom with activities geared towards increased school spirit and we also plan to perform our rendition of the school choice dance.”

Liberty Montessori international schools in Nee Rochelle / Mamaroneck, NY will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate our students, parents, teachers and staff. The event will feature Celebrating 50th year of Montessori awesomeness.”

Science and Medicine Middle School in Brooklyn, NY will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to help local families learn more about our school. The event will feature Create-A-Dance”

The Lowell School in Whitestone, NY will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate our students, parents, teachers and staff. We will host a door decorating activity and Family STEAM day”

St. Ann’s Academy in Hornell, NY will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show our school spirit. We are planning a spirit week with dress down days and fun activities for our students.”

Great Oaks Elementary School in Brooklyn, NY will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show our school spirit. Great Oaks will be hosting a Family Fun Night on Tuesday 28th January, from 6 – 8 pm. A night of games and school spirit. Other activities during the week will be a School Choice march and School Choice Week dance off with this year’s dance.”

St. Angela Merici School in Bronx, NY will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show appreciation to families and teachers for making our school great. We are planning to have our 8th graders read to their reading buddies in the kindergarten, 7th to our 1st graders, etc… we are also having contests on wearing the silliest hats and socks, followed by game day.”

Rochester School for the Deaf in Rochester, NY will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to help local families learn more about our school. The event will feature an ELA exercise for our high school students or Class of 2020 candidates for graduation to express their positive feelings about the meaningful education they receive at our bilingual American Sign Language and English school.”

Greek American Institute of New York in Bronx, NY will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to help local families learn more about our school. The event will feature an open house with children showing and representing the school and creating a video featuring daily school life”

Saint Pius Tenth School in Rochester, NY will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to share what makes our school great with our community. Just one of the special events we will be holding is a food collection for donation to a local food pantry. We want our students to know that part of what we do is to show our support for our brothers and sisters in our community.”

Bradford Central School in Bradford, NY will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event during which we will recognize perfect attendance for students and staff every month.  We also recognize the top 3 classes with the highest percentage of attendance.  I would like to give the scarves to the top 2 classes.”

The Lowell School in Whitestone, NY will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show our school spirit. Our school will be doing the National School Choice Week dance, have a school spirit week, and overall encourage school spirit.”

Kids Interactive day School in Oakalnd, NY will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate our students, parents, teachers and staff. Our national school choice week be a celebration of “Cultures”, with ethnic foods, literature, art and crafts and traditional clothing.”

Peninsula Preparatory Academy Charter School in Far Rockaway, NY will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to share what makes our school great with our community. The event will feature the school choice dance, we will have students/ teachers/ parents sharing what makes Peninsula Prep so great.”

Life Conquerors, Llc in Webster, NY will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to raise awareness about the importance of effective education for children. The event will feature a table in local library to promote educational choice during the week”

Co-op of Cambridge in Cambridge, NY will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to raise awareness about homeschooling. ”

Karen Crook Smith from Brooklyn, NY will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show local support for school choice. The event will be held at my job at a homeless shelter for families. The organization I work for also has a daycare that I will be including to participate in the celebration of peoples choice for schooling.”

Amy Case from Whitesboro, NY will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate traditional public schools. For the event we will I will be sending in literature and any other things I receive to my daughters classroom. They will be discussing what it is they love about their school.”

Bridget Bilka from West Henrietta, NY will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate students, parents, teachers, and school leaders. For the event I will share school choice supplies with my son’s school with his teacher and friends”

Erin Russell from Oneida, NY will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate students, parents, teachers, and school leaders. For the event we will celebrate by educating in a non typical environment – outdoor learning”

Mary Braunlich from Poland, NY will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show local support for great educators. For the event we will I celebrate my school by supporting them financially as well as volunteering in any way possible.”

Rainnie Hu from Flushing, NY will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate virtual education. For the event we will host a small party for local teachers and parents”

Tiffany Colon from Utica, NY will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to raise awareness of education options for children. For the event we will talk to friends, family and neighbors about school choice.”
