In Texas, National School Choice Week will feature 4,891 events and activities. Every event is unique, and all schools, homeschool groups, organizations, and families celebrate in different ways. To give you an idea of the types of celebrations taking place this January in Texas, here are just a few that participants have shared with the NSCW team:

 

Timber Academy in Moscow, TX will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to bring attention to homeschooling as a form of school choice. The children will be wearing the scarves for the week with their home education t-shirts.”

Classical Conversations of Spring/Woodlands in Houston, TX will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to let families discover more about homeschooling. The event will feature Introduction to Homeschooling”

Home And Healing in Houston, TX will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to raise awareness of education options for children. We are having a celebration to celebrate and discuss the power of learning and knowledge and continuing education.”

Brownsville Montessori Academy in Brownsville, TX will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to help local families learn more about our school. We will celebrate with the song and activity book.”

Texas Leadership Charter Academy of Arlington in Arlington, TX will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to Show our school spirit. Every day we will have a different activity celebrating our school and what students love about it. On Thursday, we will have an assembly where students will perform the SCW dance and share some inspirational stories.”

Trinidad ISD in Trinidad, TX will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to shine a positive spotlight on our school. The event will feature pictures of students with art work and scarfs, short videos of why our school is great from students and staff.”

Rosi Quintero in Austin, TX will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to raise awareness about the importance of effective education for children. For our event we will let the kids tell us why they like their school and teachers.”

Loretta Parrish in Katy, TX will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show local support for great educators. For our event we will provided scarfs for my grandsons whole classroom”

Rubi Fernandez in Watauga, TX will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to discuss K-12 school choice policies and opportunities. For our event I think is very important to parents know they have many choices for their children education and not only public school, so many different types of schools across the country.”

Pamela Fuerstenberg in Granbury, TX will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate homeschooling. For our event we will wear scarves and put sign in yard.  Share with others who homeschool too.”

Felicia Burch in Dallas, TX will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show local support for school choice. For our event we will be talking to other parents about the importance of  being involved in our children’s education and passing out scarves to children and parents.”

Gerry Brumley in Beaumont, TX will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to raise awareness of education options for children. For our event we will have a Girl scout troop meeting”

Primrose School of Stone Brooke in Mckinney, TX will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show our school spirit. For National School Choice Week we are starting it off with a pop walk with bubble wrap on Monday for the students to pop it out, Tuesday is Career Day, Wednesday students are making their own puzzles, Thursday students are having a dance party based on the NSCW dance, and Friday students are asked to dress in their future college gear.”

Premier High School of San Juan in San Juan, TX will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate our students, parents, teachers and staff. The event will feature celebrating students’ accomplishments, academic production and attendance.”

Guadalupe Regional Middle School in Brownsville, TX will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate our students, parents, teachers and staff. We have activities planned for our students that include a Pizza Night, a luncheon with community leaders, a parent sponsored Teacher Appreciation Ceremony, and Walk-a-thon and a school dance. We were also one of the National School Choice Week winners for the Spotlight feature which will be our community leader luncheon with our students!!!”

Brownsville Montessori Academy in Brownsville, TX will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to shine a positive spotlight on our school. The event will feature the dance, doing activities, we passing out fliers and scarves. We also put up the boards on our walls and fence on National School Choice Week.”

Young Elementary in Houston, TX will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to raise awareness about different education options. Our school will have school choice week, we have invited different schools to come bring awareness about their programs. The schools will come and discuss their educational programs.”

Northstar School in Arlington, TX will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show our school spirit. We hand out the scarves and do the dance every year. We think it’s lots of fun. We will also post on Facebook, in our weekly newsletter. I also like to hang the posters around the school.”

Southwest Schools in Houston, TX will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to shine a positive spotlight on our school. The event will feature a small community fair and also social media campaigns throughout the week.”

Premier High School in Brownsville, TX will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to shine a positive spotlight on our school. The scarfs and stickers will be passed out by class. The banners will be posted around the school and students are encouraged to sign the School Choice Banner.”

Buckeye Trail Commons Head Start in Dallas, TX will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to shine a positive spotlight on our school. We will be doing an Art gallery along with a photo booth to showcase our scarves.”

Hitchcock ISD “Kids First” Head Start in Hitchcock, TX will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate our students, parents, teachers and staff. The event will feature decorating with posters, passing out the scarfs to staff and parents. Take lots of pictures with out students holding the signs to promote National School Choice Week.”

HARMONY SCHOOL OF INNOVATION KATY in KATY, TX will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate our students, parents, teachers and staff. We’re posting posters and taking pictures with scarf.”

Houston STEM & ECMS in Houston, TX will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show our school spirit. We will host an art contest where will illustrate why they choose our schools.”

Trivium Academy in CARROLLTON, TX will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate our students, parents, teachers and staff. The event will feature a school wide pep rally, flash mob dance led by choir and cheerleaders, original performance by choir, videos and photos from students and teachers about what Trivium means to them.”

Cove Charter Academy in Copperas Cove, TX will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show our school spirit. We will be passing out our scarves to the students”

Harmony Science Academy Plano in Plano, TX will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show our school spirit. The event will feature a celebration of our school and families with spirit days!”

Harmony Science Academy-Cedar Park in Austin, TX will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show our school spirit. The event will feature a school dance video on Friday January 31st!”

Young Elementary School in Houston, TX will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to raise awareness about different education options. The event will promote different educational options.”

Burbank Middle School in Houston, TX will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to shine a positive spotlight on our school. Our school will celebrate by having a National School Choice Spirit Week.  Each day will have something the students, teachers, and staff can participate in.  We also will select students to create a short video clip on why “Burbank is my school choice.””

Tyler Street Christian Academy in Dallas, TX will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show appreciation to families and teachers for making our school great. We are decortating the campus and doing a photo shoot with our scholars so that they can share why they chose TSCA. We’re also including National School Choice Week in our big Pre-registration Kick-off celebration on January 23rd.”

The Kessler School in Dallas, TX will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate our students, parents, teachers and staff. We plan to create a week of celebration around things that are unique to The Kessler School – academics, staff, parents, students and community.  As an example, a daily focus on our core competencies and values  – such as highlighting our on our reading and writing workshop programs (teachers college – Columbia University), our Fine Arts program and STEM.  A daily celebratory initiative will be developed, implemented and then shared through marketing support.  A day of celebration of our faculty/staff. A day of celebration for our PTO and a day of celebration within our community – potentially a service led community project (students, teachers, parents and community).  More details will need to be flushed out but our intent is to use the week to promote positive activities around the school.”

Academy of Accelerated Learning – Chimney Rock in Houston, TX will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to share what makes our school great with our community. We will welcomes our community supporters as well as our Administrative team, faculty and staff, students, and family members. We will be having an open house, pancake breakfast for our community supporters and family members, parade and program to culminate the week’s celebration!”

Academy of Accelerated Learning, Inc. in Houston, TX will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to share what makes our school great with our community. We will host a community event that will include a pancake breakfast for parents and community supporters, open house, and a program that will include the School Choice Dance, parade, reading of the proclamation, recognize students with perfect attendance, faculty, staff, community supporters and volunteers, open house, and more.”

Mainland Preparatory Classical Academy in La Marque, TX will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show our school spirit. AT the event we will pass out scarves.”

Felix Cook Jr. Elementary in Houston, TX will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to shine a positive spotlight on our school. The event will feature a performance of the NSCW dance by students in grade 2nd thru fifth grade we will video it.”

Uplift Pinnacle in Dallas, TX will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to help local families learn more about our school. The event will feature a National School Choice Spirit Week.”

Stepping Stones Academy in Rosenberg, TX will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to help local families learn more about our school. The event will feature children wearing scarves  and performing the dance”

Brazoswood High School in Clute, TX will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to Shine a positive spotlight on our school. We plan to get a variety of students together and video them saying they choose public school. We will promote this video on our school web page, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram accounts.”

Progreso Elementary School in Progreso, TX will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show appreciation to families and teachers for making our school great. The event will feature a parade showing school pride and district spirit.”

Sgt. Leonel Trevino Elementary in Alamo, TX will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate our students, parents, teachers and staff. The event will feature a celebration in our classrooms.”

Cradles & Crayons #4 in Canutillo, TX will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show local support for school choice. The event will feature sharing information with parents about the importance of knowing how to choose their child’s schooling”

At Home in Dallas, TX will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to Discuss K-12 school choice policies and opportunities. I would like my son to learn more at home too”

Southeast Texas Educational Partnership in Port Arthur, TX will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to Inform parents about the options available for their children’s education. We will invite Charter Schools, Private Schools And Homeschool Support Organizations to come and share and celebrate school options locally.”

Gabriela Benitez from Austin, TX will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate homeschooling. For the event we will I plan on sitting my kiddos down 3 times a week and discussing the many different ways a child is able to get education and to work on making flash cards of different words associated with School Choice Week.”

Ana Ramirez from Austin, TX will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to raise awareness about the importance of effective education for children. For the event we will planning on heading to the school with other parents having posters done by their children to share with other parents how important it is for children to be in school every day”

Angela Valdez from Kingsville, TX will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show local support for school choice. We will have daily events at school.”

Kayla Lary from Huntsville, TX will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to raise awareness about the importance of effective education for children. For the event we will I help my children and my neighbors children with their homework. I also like to involve them in activities that help them learn something new and fun.”

Tiffany Kroschel from Spring, TX will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate students, parents, teachers, and school leaders. For the event we will be celebrating by letting people know about the power to choose the way they school.”

Almalee Garza from Premont, TX will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate students, parents, teachers, and school leaders. For the event we will celebrate with the kids and parents”

Hannah Silva from Fort Worth, TX will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to raise awareness about the importance and benefits of school choice. For the event we will post pictures online and talk about the importance of freedom of educational choice”

Amanda Westbrook from Mabank, TX will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate public charter schools.”
