Selection of events in Utah

In Utah, National School Choice Week will feature 320 events and activities. Every event is unique, and all schools, homeschool groups, organizations, and families celebrate in different ways. To give you an idea of the types of celebrations taking place this January in Utah, here are just a few that participants have shared with the NSCW team:

 

City Academy in Salt Lake City, UT will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to help local families learn more about our school. City Academy will be doing a Penny Drive for the World Wildlife Fund to help support relief for the Australian Wildfires. All funds will be going towards addressing immediate needs, recovering critical habitats, and preparing for future emergencies.”

Utah Mountain School in Ogden, UT will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to help local families learn more about our school. We are a new charter school that will be opening in August. We participate in many community events, and we’ve been promoting School Choice by handing out scarves and stickers, as well as hanging the posters. We also shared info about it on our website and a few community websites. Response has been great!”

Providence Hall Elementary School in Herriman, UT will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to share what makes our school great with our community. Our music teacher has been teaching our Student Body Officers the dance and all students the song. We will perform this on our Fantabulous Friday, Feb. 7. During the week of National School choice, poster are hung and each morning names are drawn from our P.A.CT. ticket buckets per grade level for scarves. We will announce winners and they come to the office to get them. A video will be made of our dancing assembly and will then be uploaded to this site. Teachers were asked to decorate their doors for the week and pictures will go in the school newsletter. 5th graders were to write essay on Why they love our school and these will be posted on a bulletin board.”

Bonneville Academy in Stansbury Park, UT will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show our school spirit. Bonneville Academy will be celebrating National School Choice Week by having themed dress-up days to represent our school, competing in a poster/essay competition, doing a school-wide service project, and much more.”

SUU SUCCESS Academy in Cedar City, UT will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to raise awareness about different education options. The school choice materials provided to us were given out to the students during Utah College Application Week!”

Cassie Casias in Logan, UT will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate public charter schools. I am a part of the parent organization as the Family Activity chair at Thomas Edison Charter School.  My committee is hosting a family bingo night and we will celebrate National School Choice Week during our bingo night with trivia of our school, a school choice photo booth, and giving out the scarves to some of the attendees.”

Pacific Heritage Academy in Salt Lake City, UT will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to share what makes our school great with our community. We are wearing our Yellow Scarves and doing a cheer.”

Ascent Academies of Utah in Farmington, UT will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to share what makes our school great with our community. Eight of our students are attending Utah’s Charter Day on the Hill where they will tour the Capitol and meet with our representatives.  They will also be promoting why there should always be a choice in education.”

Redeemer Lutheran School in Salt Lake City, UT will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to shine a positive spotlight on our school. The event will feature week long celebrations!”

Saint Joseph Catholic High School in Ogden, UT will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate our students, parents, teachers and staff. We will be going down to the capital building on Jan. 29th along with all the private schools in UT. to promote school choice.”

Franklin Discovery Academy in Vineyard, UT will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to shine a positive spotlight on our school. We plan to celebrate National School Choice Week by sharing our dance video and having a World History Fair for students and parents.”

Freedom Preparatory Academy in Provo, UT will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to shine a positive spotlight on our school. We are holding an organization wide assembly with a strong political voice to come in and support School Choice Week. We will have students, executive director, and guest speaker. After the short presentation we will have everyone join in on the school dance.”

Gateway Preparatory Academy in Enoch, UT will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate our students, parents, teachers and staff. We will be renting out a local theater to show a movie free of charge for our staff, parents, and students.”

Tiffany Weston from Layton, UT will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to inform parents about the options available for their children’s education. For the event we will use sidewalk chalk to decorate our home’s sidewalk and driveway with the National School Choice Week logo or with #schoolchoice. Use window crayons to decorate my car windows with pictures and fun sayings like “We Celebrate School Choice””

Yuliet Johnson from Ogden, UT will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate students, parents, teachers, and school leaders. For the event we will show school unity to the students so they are proud of their school and know the administration is here for them.”
