Selection of events in Virginia

In Virginia, National School Choice Week will feature 989 events and activities. Every event is unique, and all schools, homeschool groups, organizations, and families celebrate in different ways. To give you an idea of the types of celebrations taking place this January in Virginia, here are just a few that participants have shared with the NSCW team:

 

Cornerstone Christian Academy in Woodbridge, VA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to help local families learn more about our school. We will have breakfast for our parents to thank them for choosing our school. We will be having a praise rally displaying our choice to include worship in our school everyday.”

Courthouse Montessori School in Virginia Beach, VA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show our school spirit. The event will feature a School Spirit week”

Abundant Life Christian Academy in Danville, VA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to help local families learn more about our school. We will be celebrating all week with different things to do each day. For example on Monday, Jan. 27th that is our 100th day of school as well so we will be doing crafts. The rest of the week we will be doing different things and topping off the end of our week with a pep rally on Friday.”

St. John the Apostle Catholic School in Virginia Beach, VA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show appreciation to families and teachers for making our school great. We have Catholic Schools week where everyday we have something (Pajama Day, Sock Day, Patriotic Day, Sports Day, et). On Friday, we will have a volleyball game (8th graders vs. Faculty) and we do the school choice dance with the scarfs prior to the volleyball game. The kids really enjoy it.”

George Wythe High School in Richmond, VA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate our students, parents, teachers and staff. We will be passing out scarves to faculty, students, parents and city councilman. We also will sponsor a community service event called “REV YOUR BEV”, we will have an essay and poster contest and the winners will eat lunch with the principal. We will also sponsor a honor your teacher and honor your favorite athlete at a game wearing the scarves. Lastly, select students will eat lunch with our district councilman.”

Fellowship Christian Academy in Madison Heights, VA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to help local families learn more about our school. The event will feature posting on our Facebook page, Posting in our school Info Boards, Sharing by word of mouth.”

Grace Christian Academy in Max Meadows, VA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show appreciation to families and teachers for making our school great. The event will feature handing out scarves and stickers, writing thank you notes to the parents, and filling out the banner and placards.”

Mountain View Christian Academy in Winchester, VA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate our students, parents, teachers and staff.”

The Learning Community at RCC in , VA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to demonstrate the achievements of local homeschoolers. We will celebrate with chants, movements, and the wearing of our NSCW scarfs in class and on field trips.”

Sandra Summers in Courtland, VA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to share our family’s school choice story. For our event we will be wearing our scarves as a family and letting my kids say what their favorite part about going to a traditional Public School is.”

Homeschool Awareness in Jonesville, VA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to raise awareness about homeschooling. The event will feature I plan on a party to hand out paper pencils crayons school supplies for small kids etc. And talk with parents about their teaching techniques and how important their education is in this life”

Shannon Duncan from Christiansburg, VA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate traditional public schools. For the event we are going to spread the word around earth.”

Leticia Maniell from Dumfries, VA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate traditional public schools. For the event we will tell my neighbors about school choice and plan to talk with them about the National School Choice week.”

Terri Williams from Richmond, VA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show local support for school choice. For the event I will teach my grand kids”

Gretna Elem. School in Gretna, VA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate our students, parents, teachers and staff. The event will feature Posters/Banners placed in prominent places. Pictures taken throughout the building with people wearing their scarf.”

Camp E W Young in Norfolk, VA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate our students, parents, teachers and staff. We are celebrating as a whole school! We are passing out the scarves and wearing them with pride for the whole week.”

Capron Elmentary in Capron, VA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show appreciation to families and teachers for making our school great. We will be explaining to the students that they have a choice of the school they go to and hand out the scarves”

Forest Park Academy in Roanoke, VA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate our students, parents, teachers and staff. We will celebrate by passing out scarves and serving snacks.”

Parkdale Private School in Norfolk, VA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to show our school spirit. We will use the material that has been provided and take nature walk and pictures around the campass with out yellow scarves”

Cornerstone Life Academy in Fredericksburg, VA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to celebrate our students, parents, teachers and staff. The event will feature CLA will give the students the opportunity to do activities from the NSCW Activity Book. The parents will receive a letter as well as an email during the week. We will place signs on the property.”

Afton Christian School in Afton, VA will be celebrating National School Choice Week “with an event to help local families learn more about our school. We will have signs up the entire week. On Wednesday of the week we will have an assembly and discuss what School Choice is about and the entire school will participate in the song/dance”
