Parents for Educational Freedom in North Carolina is excited to announce that they will be celebrating National School Choice Week (January 26-February 1, 2020) with a special spotlight event!
The event will feature a special movie screening of Miss Virginia and will be hosted at Cameo Art House Theatre. Families, students, legislators and community members are welcome to attend! Hailed as a “must-see” movie by USA Today, the film follows a struggling inner-city mother who sacrifices everything to give her son a good education. Unwilling to allow him to stay in a dangerous school, she launches a movement that could save his future—and that of thousands like him.
PEFNC’s mission is to ENGAGE at the grassroots level, EDUCATE North Carolinians about the options in our state, and EMPOWER families to have a voice in their children’s education. As North Carolina’s source for parental school choice, we believe in allowing parents to send their children to their school of choice – traditional or nontraditional. PEFNC recognizes that education is not “one size fits all,” and that children have unique needs. Families should have the freedom to choose the best education to meet those needs, regardless of race, zip code or income.
Started in 2011, National School Choice Week (NSCW) is the world’s largest annual education-related celebration. As a nonpartisan, nonpolitical public awareness effort, NSCW shines a positive spotlight on effective education options for students, families, and communities around the country. From January 26 through February 1, 2020, more than 50,000 independently-planned events will be held in celebration of the Week.
During NSCW, schools across America celebrate the challenging, motivating, and effective education they provide to students. At the same time, parents use the week to learn more about the education options available to their children, in advance of the upcoming school year.
