K12/Virginia Virtual Academy (VAVA) is excited to announce that they will be celebrating National School Choice Week (January 26-February 1, 2020) with a special spotlight event!
The event will feature a field trip. Our families from all six major VAVA regions across the state will be invited to visit our state capitol and join the morning assembly in support of School Choice Week. Students will be encouraged to write a personal testimony (#MyVAVAWhy or #VAVArocks) to showcase their personal experience and choice in schooling with VAVA. With the help of our co-host and local chapter of the National Coalition for Public School Options, a winning essay submission will be chosen from each grade level (K-12), and the selected students will have the future opportunity to share their personal story with their local representative for additional follow-up, support, shout-outs and a VAVA sur-prize. Attending students will receive their promotional scarves provided by School Choice Week, sign the banner, and gather for a group photo in front of our state capitol to commemorate our visit and preferred schooling option. Afterwards, VAVA will gather at a nearby location to celebrate our 10-year anniversary during our “VAVA Rocks” event, spotlighting our history, highlights, and sharing family-favorite top 10s as a virtual school. There will be a special craft and many activities and awards to engage, encourage, empower, enrich, enhance, and expand our community and school spirit. There will also be pizza and a dance-off to round out our rocking festivities and VAVA time together.
State residents elect to enroll in the Virginia Virtual Academy as a public-school choice option in education. VAVA celebrates and supports existing and prospective families in their personal choice to school with us as a viable and effective educational experience and resource 10 years strong. With the support of our District Partners, the Virginia Virtual Academy provides a tuition-free, public-school educational experience for grades K-12 with flexibility and a more personalized approach. Even though our students are required to meet and master state expectations, our K12 curriculum expands beyond the benchmark tests. Enrolled in a virtual school, our students balance their online and offline work with live Class Connect sessions, led by highly qualified teachers with hands-on lessons and modules to promote participation and student interaction for more personal instruction, skills assessment, and support.
Started in 2011, National School Choice Week is the world’s largest annual education-related celebration. The goal of NSCW, which features participation from tens of thousands of schools and organizations, is to shine a positive spotlight on effective education options for children.
During National School Choice Week, schools across America celebrate the challenging, motivating, and effective education they provide to students. At the same time, parents use the week to learn more about the education options available to their children, in advance of the upcoming school year.
National School Choice Week is nonpartisan and nonpolitical, and is not related to any legislative advocacy efforts.
