Students, teachers and staff at Watts Learning Center Middle School in Los Angeles, California are excited to announce that they will be celebrating National School Choice Week with a special event!

WHAT:
WLCCMS will participate in a National School’s Choice Week Door Decorating Contest. Students will decorate doors during Advisory, and judging will occur on Monday, the 23rd. The winner will be featured in a video posted on the school’s website.
1/24 – 8th-grade students will attend a field trip at a local high school participating in National School’s Choice week. This will be a half-day trip where students can tour the campus, shadow core and elective classes for 30 minutes, meet the school’s administrative team, and visit the counseling/career and college center.
1/25 – Community Service Field Trip Day – students will attend and participate in a local community service effort
1/26 – 5th Grade Mentors Program – middle school students will host 5th-grade students from our “sister” elementary school and provide our 5th-grade students with a tour of our campus, a classroom visit, a meeting with teachers and staff, and a lunchtime pep rally hosted by our Radiance Dance Team girls. The purpose of the event is to spark interest in our 5th-grade students understanding of their “school choice”. We will also have a dignitary guest speaker at the event who will speak to both our 5th graders and our 6-8th grade students.
1/27 Schoolwide Assembly – dignitary from our local school of education office to discuss the importance of school choice; students making wide educational choices and being proactive in their educational progress.
1/28 – Community Open House – 9 AM – noon; an opportunity for everyone in the community to visit our campus and engage in a presentation about our course offering; individual booths will be set up representing academic and social areas (Leadership Club, English Dept, Math Dept) and they will be facilitated by the Department Chair/Academic Advisor in charge; we will have a Scholastic Book Fair in the Parent Center; a special invite will be sent to the families of all 5th-grade students (entering 6th grade Fall 2023) so families can visit campus and decide if WLCCMS is the school choice option for them
