Lincoln– Families discovered the education options available to their children in Nebraska during School Choice Week, Jan. 20-26.

The Week featured 215 events and activities across the Cornhusker State, including open house events at schools, school fairs, homeschool information sessions, and other celebrations. One of the largest events in the state was a rally at the state capitol in Lincoln. Additional school choice community events were held in locales such as Scottsbluff and Papillion.

Coverage of National School Choice Week spanned the state and featured stories in outlets such as the 1011 Now and the Lincoln Journal Star, among many others.

Nationwide, 40,549 events and activities were organized to raise awareness during National School Choice Week (Jan. 20-26, 2019), and 10.8 million Americans are estimated to have participated. It was the largest series of education-related events and activities in U.S. history.

On the local level, elected officials and community leaders recognized the importance of educational opportunity by officially recognizing the Week. The county of Garden and the cities of Kearney and Valley issued proclamations recognizing School Choice Week in their community.

Celebrated since 2011, National School Choice Week is an independent public awareness effort. The Week is nonpartisan and nonpolitical, and it is not related to any legislative advocacy campaign.

“National School Choice Week provides an opportunity for families in Nebraska and across America to evaluate their education options and research different schools in advance of the next school year,” said National School Choice Week President Andrew Campanella.
