Boise– Families and educators celebrated School Choice Week and the empowerment and flexibility that educational options provide Idaho students.
The Week featured 240 events and activities across the Gem State, including open house events at schools, school fairs, homeschool information sessions, and other celebrations. One of the largest events in the state was a school fair at the Galaxy Event Center in Boise. Additional school choice community events were held in locales such as Bonners Ferry, Idaho Falls, and Meridian.
Coverage of National School Choice Week spanned the state and featured a story in the Idaho Statesman among many other outlets.
Nationwide, 40,549 events and activities were organized to raise awareness during National School Choice Week (Jan. 20-26, 2019), and 10.8 million Americans are estimated to have participated. It was the largest series of education-related events and activities in U.S. history.
On the local level, elected officials and community leaders recognized the importance of educational opportunity by officially recognizing the Week. The cities of Chubbuck, Heybum, and Meridian issued proclamations recognizing School Choice Week in their community.
Celebrated since 2011, National School Choice Week is an independent public awareness effort. The Week is nonpartisan and nonpolitical, and it is not related to any legislative advocacy campaign.
“Idaho families have a diversity of choices for their children’s K-12 education, and we encourage parents to use National School Choice Week to search for schools that best meet the needs of their kids,” said National School Choice Week President Andrew Campanella.
