Oklahoma City– Families, teachers, and community leaders showed their support for educational opportunity at hundreds of events during School Choice Week.

The Week featured 484 events and activities across the Sooner State, including open house events at schools, school fairs, homeschool information sessions, and other celebrations. One of the largest events in the state was a school choice summit and expo at the Oklahoma History Center in Oklahoma City. Additional school choice community events were held in locales such as Guymon.

Coverage of National School Choice Week was featured in The Journal Record.

Nationwide, 40,549 events and activities were organized to raise awareness during National School Choice Week (Jan. 20-26, 2019), and 10.8 million Americans are estimated to have participated. It was the largest series of education-related events and activities in U.S. history.

On the local level, elected officials and community leaders recognized the importance of educational opportunity by officially recognizing the Week. The county of Ottawa and the cities of Geary and Luther issued proclamations recognizing School Choice Week in their community.

Celebrated since 2011, National School Choice Week is an independent public awareness effort. The Week is nonpartisan and nonpolitical, and it is not related to any legislative advocacy campaign.

“National School Choice Week provides an opportunity for families in Oklahoma and across America to evaluate their education options and research different schools in advance of the next school year,” said National School Choice Week President Andrew Campanella.
