Indianapolis– Indiana families and educators celebrated School Choice Week and their state’s leading status when it comes to educational opportunity.

The Week featured 981 events and activities across the Hoosier State, including open house events at schools, school fairs, homeschool information sessions, and other celebrations. One of the largest events in the state was a Legislative Breakfast at the Conrad Hotel in Indianapolis. Additional school choice community events were held in locales such as Lebanon and Princeton.

Coverage of National School Choice Week spanned the state and featured stories in outlets such as Fox 59 and the Tristate Homepage, among many others.

Nationwide, 40,549 events and activities were organized to raise awareness during National School Choice Week (Jan. 20-26, 2019), and 10.8 million Americans are estimated to have participated. It was the largest series of education-related events and activities in U.S. history.

On the local level, elected officials and community leaders recognized the importance of educational opportunity by officially recognizing the Week. Governor Eric Holcomb issued an official proclamation recognizing Jan. 20-26 as Indiana School Choice Week. In addition, the counties of Delaware and Franklin and the cities of Beech Grove, Perry Township, and Veedersburg issued proclamations recognizing School Choice Week in their community.

Celebrated since 2011, National School Choice Week is an independent public awareness effort. The Week is nonpartisan and nonpolitical, and it is not related to any legislative advocacy campaign.

“Indiana is a national leader in providing a multitude of K-12 education options for families, and National School Choice Week is the ideal time for parents to evaluate these options for their own children,” said National School Choice Week President Andrew Campanella.
