National School Choice Week (NSCW) informs, inspires, and empowers parents to discover the K-12 education options available for their children, including traditional public, charter, magnet, online, private, and home schooling.
Every January, tens of thousands of schools, organizations, and individuals plan unique events and activities to shine a positive spotlight on effective education options in their communities.
In 2024, we are partnering with 841 schools and organizations in Michigan to raise awareness of K-12 education options.

Students will work on projects to help others, e.g. making fleece throws for nursing home residents or a project that helps the Humane Society. They will make cards to send to church members who are shut-ins. |

Jan 22 | Center Line | Academy 21 Virtual Program – Wolfe Middle School | Wolfe Middle School will be celebrating National School Of Choice Week with an Art Gallery Showcase. Guests will be invited to come tour the showcase and check out some of our students’ wonderful artwork. |

Events will include a school kick-off assembly, student share out where students will share why they are grateful to attend AMA, a door decorating contest “Why we LOVE AMA” judged by our mayor and local police, fire, and chamber members. We will have a special treat for our parents – candy passed out in the car line saying “School of Choice is Sweet, Thanks for choosing AMA”. We will end the week with a talent show! |

Jan 22 | Farmington Hills | Country Hills Montessori School | This is a week long event for the students at Country Hills Montessori. The students will write thank you letters to their parents thanking them for sending them to Country Hills Montessori. They will wear their bracelets one day. They will wear their scarves one day. They will have a special treat day where they will make ice cream sundaes. |

Jan 22 | Detroit | Foreign Language Immersion & Cultural Studies School | Foreign Language Immersion & Cultural Studies School will be hosting some “NEW YEAR” events for the start of the 2024 with a painting with purpose event for our parents and students. We will also be hosting a vision board party and a nutrition class to start eating and being healthy. |

Jan 22 | Owosso | Spring Vale Christian School | Spring Vale Christian School will be hosting a Festival that is open to the community. We will be showcasing our school by offering honey from our campus beehives, apple cider that the students have made from or campus apple trees, giving hay rides, as well as having many family friendly activities to bring our school and community together. |
Jan 23 | Livonia | Basilica of St Mary Montessori Academy | Basilica of St. Mary Montessori Academy will participate in NSCW by performing the dance. |
Jan 23 | Imlay City | Imlay City Christian School | Imlay City Christian will be celebrating School Choice week with several events. We will begin with students making posters that tell why their school is special to them. Other activities will include an assembly recognizing parents for making ICCS their choice for education. Students will be given yellow wristbands to wear and share with their parents. Other activities may include opportunities to serve in the community. |
Jan 23 | Pinckney | Saint Mary Catholic School | St. Mary Catholic School will be hosting an open house to showcase to families all the work we are doing in the classrooms. Students will have work on display in hallways and in the classroom. There will be an ice cream social for families as well. Students can invite grandparents or friends to come and show off their work. |
Jan 23 | Detroit | Southeastern High School | Southeastern High School PTSA will be hosting a game day for the students during all the lunch periods so that each student can participate. Students will be playing various games of their choosing during their lunch period and we will taking photos of students wearing the NSCW scarves and wrist bands. Staff will be representing NSCW with T-shirts with the NSCW written across the front and Southeastern High School on the back to let everyone know that we are a school of choice. |
Jan 24 | Lansing | Windemere Park Charter Academy, 1 | Windemere Park Charter Academy will be celebrating our school pride with a spirit week which will include a pep rally, informational night for parents, movie event for families, and a poster making contest to show off why WPCA is the best place to be and why we love our charter school. |
Jan 25 | Lansing | PACE (Parent Advocates For Choice In Education) | P.A.C.E. along with a coalition of Michigan Educational Groups come together to rally at the Michigan State Capitol in support of #schoolchoice. Together schools will showcase their unique approaches to education while speaking with legislators and the public about why their school has become the perfect fit for the student population they serve. The event will conclude with a rally showcasing some of our talented students, parents, and educators. |
Jan 26 | Saginaw | Brenda Long Homeschool | For National School Choice Week 2024, Brenda Long Homeschool will have our students write thank you letters to show their love and appreciation for school choice and their homeschool education. |

Feb 15 | Bad Axe | Bad Axe Middle School | Bad Axe Middle School students will have the opportunity to have their art work displayed at the High School on February 15th during Parent-Teacher Conferences. Attending parents will also receive a complimentary scarf, celebrating School Choice. |
