There are a variety of school choice options available for many of the 1.6 million children living in Indiana. Families in Indiana can choose from traditional public schools, public charter schools, public magnet schools, private schools, online academies, and homeschooling.

National School Choice Week (NSCW) informs, inspires, and empowers parents to discover the K-12 education options available for their children, including traditional public, charter, magnet, online, private, and homeschooling.

Every January, tens of thousands of schools, organizations, and individuals plan unique events and activities to shine a positive spotlight on effective education options in their communities.  The Week is a project of the nonpartisan, nonpolitical National School Choice Awareness Foundation.

Please join EdChoice and the National School Choice Awareness Foundation for a community event on January 24th from 5:30 – 8:30pm in celebration of National School Choice Week. This event, hosted at Indianapolis Marriott Downtown, will feature a parent panel conversation discussing the educational environment in Indianapolis and how they’ve been able to navigate the landscape to make the best choices for their children. Come enjoy an evening with the community and celebrate school choice!

From Alaska to New York, America will light up in yellow and red to raise awareness about K-12 education opportunities during National School Choice Week 2024! (January 21–27, 2024).

Close to 3 dozen iconic landmarks or notable buildings will light up in red and yellow for the Week. The landmarks’ sparkling red and yellow lights will play a role in the festivities for National School Choice Week 2024. Families are invited to capture pictures of the landmarks’ lights––or their own at-home red and yellow light displays––to share on social media using #SchoolChoiceWeek

What:

Students, parents, and educators from across the Hoosier State will gather to celebrate school choice at the state capitol on Wednesday, January 24th, 2024. More than 20 virtual school students are expected to attend to showcase their virtual learning environment. The event will raise awareness of the K–12 education options for Indiana families, while providing an opportunity for community and state stakeholders to hear directly from families about how school choice has helped them learn and succeed. Hosted by Public School Options in collaboration with the National School Choice Awareness Foundation, the event will also include speakers and student tours of the capitol.
