About National School Choice Week

Every child deserves a quality education. At National School Choice Week (NSCW), we help families discover the traditional public, public charter, public magnet, private, online, and home education options available for their children. National School Choice Week will take place January 21-27, 2024.

Each January, we partner with schools, homeschool organizations, and nonprofits to plan or promote tens of thousands of unique events and activities, reaching tens of millions of people. These efforts shine the brightest possible spotlight on the importance of opportunity in K-12 education.

Our work is positive, inclusive, and fun, helping families find schools and learning environments where their children can learn, thrive, succeed, and be happy.

Our Mission

National School Choice Week (NSCW) informs, inspires, and empowers parents to discover the K-12 education options available for their children, while generating widespread public awareness of the importance of opportunity in K-12 education.

Our Scope

We raise positive and equal awareness of traditional public schools, public charter schools, public magnet schools, private schools, online learning, and homeschooling. Our work spans all 50 states and the District of Columbia. We are nonpolitical and do not advocate for legislation.

Our Work

We support schools and homeschool organizations in planning community events and activities, partner with nonprofit organizations to organize large-scale school fairs and awareness events, and amplify online enthusiasm for school choice among millions of participants.

Our Results

In 2022, we worked with 22,086 schools, and with homeschool organizations, to plan or promote 26,299 community events and activities. We also partnered with 66 nonprofit organizations across 32 states to plan 45 large-scale events.

Our Impact

In 2022, NSCW generated 9,951 unique or syndicated news stories reaching 74.4 million Americans, and NSCW-related social media posts reached 95 million Americans. More parents search for “school choice” on Google during NSCW than during any other time of the year.

Our History

Since the first celebration of NSCW in 2011, our team has: planned or promoted 242,943 community-based events and activities, partnered with nonprofit organizations to organize 355 large-scale events, and inspired millions of parents to search for schools and learning environments for their children.

Our Organization

NSCW is a charitable program of the National School Choice Awareness Foundation (NSCAF), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. NSCAF’s mission is to improve K-12 education in the United States, and to support the success of America’s children, by raising broad and equal awareness of the traditional public, public charter, public magnet, private, online, and home education options available for children and families. In addition to organizing NSCW, NSCAF researches, develops, and disseminates the nation’s largest online portfolio of school navigation resources for families, in English and in Spanish.
